Borrow instead of buying
At the Saint-Mathieu Local, you don’t borrow books but things: a drill, a tent, a crêpe maker, sun loungers… Free of charge, for everyone living in Bernex.
137 items in the catalogue, 136 of them available now.
Why a library of things?
The idea is simple: share the things we rarely use. A drill is used for a few minutes a year, so why should everyone buy one?
- Green: fewer purchases, less waste.
- Money-saving: it’s free, and it frees up space in your cupboards.
- Practical: items for DIY, cooking, hosting, going camping…
- Neighbourly: a chance for neighbours to help each other.
How does it work?
- Find an item in the catalogue: each item page shows when it is free.
- Create your account (free, from age 18) after reading the borrower’s charter. On your first visit, a volunteer checks your identity document.
- Reserve online, up to three months ahead, or in person during opening hours.
- Collect it at the Local during opening hours, and bring it back clean and complete on the agreed date.
Not comfortable with the internet? Just come during opening hours: the volunteers will help you create your account and make a reservation.
